A Note From Richard
Finding out in October is the worst part
I'm Richard Martinez, and I've been helping people with Medicare since 2004 — twenty-two Annual Enrollment Periods now. I'm licensed in New Mexico and Arizona.
The hardest calls I take every fall are from people who opened a letter and learned the plan they've had for years won't be there in January. It's unsettling, and it comes with a deadline attached. But it is workable, and you have more options than that letter makes it sound like you do.
When you request a consultation here, you're not being sent to a call center, and your information is not sold as an internet lead. I'll call you myself. We'll go through your doctors by name, your prescriptions, and how you actually use your coverage — then compare what's available where you live and talk through the real trade-offs in plain language.
There's no cost, and no pressure to decide anything on the call. And when you have a question next February, you call me. The same person.
Common Questions
What people are asking me this fall
Tap any question for a short answer — then let me walk you through your own situation.
If your Medicare Advantage plan is discontinued and you make no other choice by December 7, you generally go back to Original Medicare on January 1. That usually means no prescription drug coverage and none of the extras your plan included. Most people would rather make an active choice than land there by default.
The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 through December 7, 2026, and what you choose starts January 1, 2027. If your plan is being discontinued, you may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period that runs past December 7 — worth asking about, because it gives you breathing room.
It depends where you land. Every Medicare Advantage plan has its own network, so your doctors have to be checked against each specific plan — by name, not by hospital system. With a Medicare Supplement plan you can see any provider who accepts Medicare. This is the first thing I check for people, before anything else.
Each plan has its own drug list, and the same medication can cost very different amounts from one plan to the next. Have your prescription bottles handy when we talk — I'll run your actual medications, at your actual pharmacy, against each option rather than guessing from a brochure.
Nothing. There's no fee for the consultation, no fee for the class, and no obligation to enroll in anything. If you decide to stay right where you are, that's a perfectly good outcome and I'll tell you so.
